Cascais Village
This former fishing village has been tuned in to tourism since 1870, when the royal court first came here for the summer, bringing a train of nobility in its wake. It's now the liveliest beach resort on the Estoril Coast near Lisbon, attracting tourism and international events.
On this typical village we can find the fish market in traditions Market Villa, with typical restaurants like Marisco na Praça, Gulli and Pateo do Petisco, where locals normaly taste portuguese products.
The atmospheric back lanes and alleys to the west of the village town hall are surrounded by restaurants and nightlive. In a shady square southwest of the câmara municipal is Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, decorated with azulejos predating the 1755 earthquake that destroyed most of the town.
For water sports and surfing spots visit Praia do Guincho, 9km (5.58mi) northwest of Cascais. This long, wild beach is a surfer's and windsurfer's paradise with its massive crashing rollers. Beware of the strong undertow which can be dangerous for swimmers and novice surfers.

In Cascais, the lights shine through the night, old lighthouses that once guided the boats of old fishermen to not be lost on the sea. Today these Lighthouses and Strongholds are also a passing point. With or without lights, the legends still shining through day and night, they call invite you to enjoy this small village.

The Paula Rego House of Stories Museum is one mandatory place to visit, she painted the fairy tale stories in a way no one did before. Mixing the beauty and the dark side of the villains, her paintings are now available at the A Casa das Hitórias de Paula Rego.
Many important people from Portuguese History passed by Cascais. Actually, the Cidadela de Cascais was a favorite place for some Kings and the famous Castro Guimarães Counts left their palace to become the Museum of Castro Guimarães Counts.

Both Museums, Portuguese Music Museum and The Museum of the Sea, Casino do Estoril and is garden, the nice churches in the center, feel the silence of the Saint Sebatian Chapel from 17thcentury with an huge collection of art and the Cultural Center of Cascais, are meeting points for the local culture.
Near the sea you can walk in Paredão (Estoril promenade), for 3 kms and enjoy a beer on one of this nice restaurants, like "Baiuka" or "O Piparo", for romantic sunshine you can be at the terrace of "Hotel Albatroz", "Farol Design Hotel" , "Fortaleza do Guincho" or the legendary Boca do Inferno restaurant.
